External Material Testing
We have close relations with a national UKAS accredited company who have purpose built laboratory facilities operating from Midlands and South West for all material testing requirements.
Material destructive testing can be used to determine the suitability of a particular material type to a proposed external environment such as product flow erosion, corrosion, environmental conditions and structural stresses induced by operational and environmental conditions such as the sea, salt and cyclonic impacts. Pre-determined material mechanical values can be verified by testing hardness, tensile-strength, toughness, yield and elongation.
Weld procedure qualification samples can be investigated to ensure all the control values have been met by testing hardness, bend, nick-break, macro visual examination and micro evaluation of the grain structure. Materials that have failed or cracked during service can be examined by fractography in order to determine the initial reason for the failure.
